BRELA ISSUES FINAL NOTICE TO STRIKE OFF 5,277 COMPANIES
- BRELA issues a final notice on the intention to strike off 5,277 companies.
- A list of 5,277 affected companies has been provided.
- 90 days are provided for objecting to the intention of striking off.
In a bid to maintain an accurate and up-to-date Register of Companies, on 18 September 2026, the Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA) issued a Final Notice, published in the Government Gazette (Government Notice No. 16308), on its intention to remove 5,277 affected companies from the Register of Companies.
Previously, on 2 June 2022 and 13 July 2022, BRELA issued notices to the affected companies requiring them to confirm whether they were carrying on business. The current Final Notice notifies the Directors, Shareholders, and Company Secretaries of the affected companies of the Registrar of Companies’ intention to remove the companies from the Register of Companies.
The Final Notice provides the affected companies with a period of ninety (90) days from the date of publication within which to object to the proposed removal from the Register of Companies. Upon expiry of the ninety (90)-day period, where no objection has been received from an affected company, the Registrar of Companies may proceed with the necessary steps to remove the company from the Register of Companies.
The Final Notice creates important corporate compliance obligations for the Directors, Shareholders, and Company Secretaries of the affected companies. Affected companies should promptly verify their business status and address any outstanding compliance matters with BRELA. Affected companies that are still carrying on business are advised to undertake a corporate compliance review within the ninety (90)-day period and take the necessary steps to regularise their corporate records and compliance status with BRELA.
